. What is the
central therne ofDilKya Kare?
The film deals with human relationships. It's an overlapping of relationships
between men, women and children. It explores the areas where definitions begin to blur. At
what point does a man stop being a lover and become a husband? At what point does a woman
stop being a wife and become a lover? Does the woman who gives birth to a child have more
rights over it than the one who raises it? It's a love quadrangle, so to speak. The
20-second promo, which shows Mahima going behind a tree and KaJol emerging from the other
side, and finally Ajay walking away with the child, depicts the story symbolically. The
tree, as you know, is an age-old symbol of romance in India.

What is special about DilKyaKare? The story,
and the characters. The characters have the courage to admit their shortcomings and let
their loved ones feel that they regret it. It's a very simple, emotion-based film. There
are no special effects. No gimmicks. Only a heartfelt story narrated in a straightforward
style.
How did the film come about?
I enjoy writing short stories and Dil Kya Kare began as a short story I had written for
pleasure. When 1 began looking for a subject , 1 came across it once again and liked it I
had been meeting Ajay on and off and he used to suggest that we work together. I thought
he would suit the hero's role in the mature love story so I approached him. I got a
pleasant surprise when he told me he would not only like to act in it but also to produce
it.
